Anglesea Blues Festival and NJ State BBQ Championships - July 19th, 2003

This has to have been one of the coolest gigs we've ever played! Where do we start - the ribs, the crowd, the sound, the smell!

We got there just in time to see the wing-eating contest, hoping that none of the competitors would lose their lunch on the stage we were to use next. Fortunately, none did.

Having a little time to kill before we hit, we wandered around to get a sense of just what a BBQ Championship involved - these photos should give you a good idea what it looked like, but they couldn't possible convey just how damn good it smelled.....
First, there was this wing-eating competition, a relay race where 3 members of each team had to each polish off a box full of wings. The winning team was led by perennial Wing Bowl champion, El Wingador!
Then it was up to us, and we had a blast. The sound was excellent, the crowd was into it from the outset, and we also had a couple of terrific guest appearances from our MC Michael Paul on harmonica, and Kenny Taylor on trumpet from Frank Bey's band.
Finally, Frank Bey and the Swing City Blues Band took the stage, and we got to see them pick up right where we left off, and do a great show. Folks, just say the word, and we're back again next year!

These shots should give you some idea of the great crowd we were playing to. These guys were digging all that was going on around 'em - if it wasn't us, it was the great cooking.....
